Ito Yuna’s 2nd single, entitled Faith / Pureyes, was released on 03.01.06. While Faith was used as the ending theme for the dorama UNFAIR, Pureyes was used as a promotional song for BIOCLEN ZERO contact lenses.
Faith is the sorrowful love ballad. The song begins with a melancholy instrumental that strikes the listener’s heart right away. Then Yuna comes in and as she sings the first verse, the listener can really feel the emotion in her voice and it comes across as believable and real. On the chorus, she maintains her strong vocals and the instrumentation becomes more diverse. Somehow the instrumentation takes on an even prettier tone while still portraying the emotions so the listener really falls into its sound. Near the end, she does some great vocalizing that really catches the listener’s ear. Faith is a great song and it suits Yuna’s voice better than previous A-side, ENDLESS STORY.
Pureyes, the second B-side, is the upbeat A-side. The song opens up very quickly with Yuna speaking in English as she sings “What you gonna do? Touch me baby” and immediately, the listener becomes intrigued by this combination of sweetness and flirtation. After the chorus ends, the instrumentation becomes more fun and happy, which really goes perfectly with Yuna’s voice. On the verses, there is a nice relaxing feeling and Yuna continues to give sweet and alluring vocals that support the atmosphere of the song perfectly. That pure instrumental section is so addictive and fun that the listener can’t help but love it. Pureyes is an insanely catchy number and one of Yuna’s best efforts thus far so it’s definitely worth the listen.
In order to promote the single, a PV for Faith was made. In fitting with the sorrowful atmosphere of the song, the video features Yuna all alone without love. There are scenes of her dressed in dark clothing against a dark background as well as scenes of her all alone in the city. It’s a very good representation of the song and Yuna looks great.
Single Ranking: A
Faith / Pureyes is a huge stepup from Yuna’s first single since we get the opportunity to see two sides of her. Faith gives us the emotional Yuna who is so good at delivering the emotions for the listener while Pureyes gives us the fun and sweet Yuna with a hint of flirtation. Both songs make this one unforgettable song.

Koda Kumi’s 16th single, entitled Butterfly, was released on 06.22.05. Used as the theme song for the dorama Kosume no Mahou 2, this single is considered to be Kumi’s breakthrough single and that which really propelled her into the spotlight.
Butterfly is an addictive dance pop number that shows Kumi’s playful side. The song begins with the chorus, which features some great vocals over a very catchy instrumental. The English phrases like “burning heart” and “butterfly” are nice because they really pop against all the Japanese lyrics. After that is a small instrumental section in which you can a voice in the background saying English phrases like “I wanna kiss you all over” and “your body” before the first verse begins. On the verses, there is a more relaxed feeling as Kuu’s vocals are deeper and crisper, matching the instrumentation. The hook is a good transition as Kuu’s vocals get more powerful and it sets up the listener for the chorus strongly. Tha pure instrumental section is great as we hear those phrases in the background along with some moans and giggling, which is perfect for Kuu’s playful side. It’s no wonder why Butterfly became a smash hit: it’s catchy, fun and has that Kuu magic on it.
In order to promote the single, a PV for Butterfly was made. The video features Kumi’s ero-kakkoi side and in a very strong way. It begins with Kumi boiling some tea before she goes to a bed to get her phone. She then goes to the mirror and puts on some lip gloss, transforming her into Butterfly Kumi (in a seperate scene). She also appears as a student and she dances with the other students during the chorus. There are also scenes of Kumi and two girls in a garage with soap bubbles and hoses as they spray each other. There’s a lot of great dancing and Kumi looks absolutely fantastic, which makes this one memorable video.
Song and PV Ranking: A +
Butterfly is a fantastic song and definitely one of Kumi’s most memorable to date. It features a great dance sound alongside a playfully sexy atmosphere that suits her perfectly. Her vocals are strong and the music is addictive so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t listen to it.

Ito Yuna’s debut single, entitled ENDLESS STORY, was released on 09.07.05. The title track was used in the movie, Nana, which Yuna starred in herself [thus the reason the single was released as Reira starring Ito Yuna].
ENDLESS STORY is a heart-touching ballad packed with emotions. The song begins with the piano, giving a very grandiose and powerful emotional atmosphere for the listener to sink into. Following is the first verse and Yuna’s vocals are very pretty here, portraying the emotions of her character very well. It’s also nice to have those English phrases such as “If you haven’t changed your mind” because they really pop around the rest of the Japanese lyrics. On the chorus, there is a more grand feeling as the instrumentation becomes more diverse and involved and Yuna’s vocals become stronger. The pure instrumental section is fantastic, allowing the guitars to really shine and open up another layer of emotions before the chorus returns.
Journey, a driving midtempo number, is the single’s B-side. An almost eerie instrumental opens up with the album before the song’s true beat comes in. When the music comes in full effect, it sounds a little cheesy and predictable but it’s nice to hear something upbeat from her. On the verses, Yuna’s vocals are enjoyable and go very nicely with the very natural atmosphere of the instrumental. It really evokes the feeling of taking a drive, which works with the whole theme of the song. The chorus isn’t as enjoyable since her vocals sound a little nasal so it comes off as awkward sounding. Unfortunately, this song doesn’t come even close to the level of the title track and it doesn’t really compliment ENDLESS STORY.
In order to promote the single, a PV for ENDLESS STORY was made. The video primarily features Yuna performing the song live but there are also scenes of Yuna looking absolutely gorgeous in front of a dreamy pink background. There are a few too many close-up shots but it’s a pretty enjoyable video.
Single Ranking: B +
ENDLESS STORY was a pretty good song to debut with since it shows Yuna’s ability to bring emotions to the listener’s ears. Journey wasn’t a very memorable song but on the other hand, it’s nice to hear something upbeat.

In order to promote Leah Dizon’s first album, Destiny Line, a PV for Again and Again was made. Leah co-composed the song herself alongside her brother Brad and seeing as the song is special to her, it’s no wonder a video was made. Although the video is very simple, there is something very endearing and relatable about it. It is shot completely in black and white to give it that home video feeling. Leah is seen as she wanders outside both on her own and as she lies on a truck. You can see the emotions of the song come across her face during the video and there are many scenes where she just seems so natural, which really works with the whole atmosphere of the song. Leah looks absolutely stunning here and the entire video is perfection, really complimenting the emotions of the song well.
PV Ranking: A +

Get It On was released as a single downloadable only though mu-mo for a certain period of time during the era of BEST ~second sesssion.~ The song was shortened and served as the introductory track for that album under the name Introduction to the second session.
Get It On opens up with the hook, in which Kumi sings in all English and the sexy element comes out to play as she sings “tell me, tell me what you want cause I’m right here, ready to serve, whatever you need.” Then the hot Arabian instrumental comes crashing in, teasing and enticing the listener strongly. The verses are the strongest part of the song as Kumi’s smooth vocals wrap around the music and keep the sexiness strongly. English phrases such as “secret stuff” and “I’m your fantasy” pop nicely and allow the listener’s ear to pick up that coolness. The chorus is addictive as well as Kumi shows a little more vocal strength and the first line, “it’s time to get it on,” really stands out. With the final looming hooks, Kumi goes even higher as she vocalizes and it’s a great way to finish the song off.
Single Ranking: A +
Kumi has always had a knack for her Arabian songs and Get It On is no exception. Hopefully this song will have some sort of physical release in the future.

Suzuki Ami’s 15th single and debut single with avex, entitled Delightful, was released on 03.24.05.
Delightful is a great dance song that keeps the listener moving. The song starts off with an upbeat dance instrumental that immediately catches the listener’s ear and then the first verse begins. There is a dark atmosphere about the instrumentation and her vocals are a little deep here, staying with the music perfectly. Soon the instrumentation becomes a little more diverse and comes to a lighter climax on the chorus. English phrases such as “crazy my love” and “body shaking now” really make the chorus pop. Following the chorus is the pure instrumental section, which really demands attention and entrances the listener. Then we return back to the darker atmosphere of the verses.
The B-side is the sweet magical ballad, About You…The strongest part of the song is the magical atmosphere that the music exutes. On the chorus especially, her vocals show just what Ami can do and it fits very strongly with the music. About You… is a very nice compliment to Delightful to make this single enjoyable.
In order to promote the single, a PV for Delightful was made. The video is very enjoyable, featuring Ami in a red outfit and another scene in a yellow outfit as she dances with some backup dancers, dressed in all black. It looks like they are in a factory of some sort and it has that coolness that the song supports so it makes for a nice video.
Single Ranking: A
Delightful is certainly a delightful single. While the A-side has a fun dance atmosphere while channeling some dark elements, With You… features a magical sound that really resonates with the listener. It’s a great debut single on avex that shows what Ami can do.

sifow’s 4th single, entitled RULE, was on 05.16.07.
RULE, a sweet love song, takes the reigns as the A-side. The song begins with a catchy pop instrumental and soon a few lines of the chorus are sung. sifow gives some great vocals here to match with the sweet and somewhat relaxing music. On the verses, it slows down a little bit as the focus is on her voice rather than the music and she sings a little deeper than usual. The chorus stands out the strongest particularly because of strength in comparison to the verses. The music is more aggressive and her vocals give more strength.
The B-side is the hollow love song, Love Regrets. Beginnging the song is a dark and sleek instrumental that is instantly addictive. The first line “hold me tight, still love me?” captures a sexual atmosphere that is unmistakable. Following is the first verse and there is such a cold atmosphere that the listener falls in love.
In order to promote the single, a PV for RULE was made. The video is very colorful, featuring lots of butterflies. Although there isn’t any story, it’s just a very visually-appealing video and the gold scene is wonderful because sifow looks flawless.
Single Ranking: A -
Love Regrets is the real star of this single and should have been the A-side but RULE is a nice and relaxing song worth checking out. The single is one to remember and hopefully sifow will be back before we know it.

sifow’s 5th single, entitled 夏花火, was released on 07.25.07.
夏花火, a light dance number, serves as the single’s A-side. The song starts off with the chorus, an uptempo dance instrumental with sifow providing some great vocals to support it. The following section of pure instrumentation allows the listener to hear the traditional Japanese elements that make it so interesting. She stands just as strong on the verses as her vocals keep a sleekness that support the pretiness of the instrumentation. With a gorgeous instrumentation and great vocals from sifow, it’s no wonder that this song was chosen to be released.
Ai-Ai!!! is a fantastic dance number that really catches the listener’s ear. The song opens up with the chorus, which only features sifow singing “ai-ai” and “wow-wow-wow.” Her vocals really work with the dance feel of the instrumentation and soon we come into the first verse. There is a really cool atmosphere as sifow’s vocals are once again sleek and suit the almost sexual feeling of the song. One part that really stands out is the pure instrumental section when the music fades and then comes back strongly. This song is even stronger than the A-side and definitely makes the single fantastic from start to finish.
In order to promote the single, a PV for 夏花火 was made. The video features a very traditional look from the outfits to the people playing the instruments. As always, sifow looks absolutely gorgeous and the sheer pretiness of the video makes it a definite one to watch out for.
Single Ranking: A +
夏花火 and Ai-Ai!!! are both wonderful songs that really build this single to be strong from start to finish. The B-side is more aggressive in terms of its dance feel while the A-side takes on a pretty sound to support sifow. It’s definitely a single worth checking out.

Shimatani Hitomi’s 25th single, entitled Neva Eva, was released on 06.06.07. The title track was used as the opening theme for the Nippon TV Wrestling 2007
Neva Eva is an edgy dance song that shows the power of Shimatani Hitomi. Opening the song is an upbeat and addictive instrumental that makes the listener want to get up and dance. On the first verse, Hitomi’s vocals carry that edge and sleekness that is mirrored in the instrumentation to make a dangerous combination. The chorus stands out strongly as the music continues to support her and the last vocals of the chorus are really what make it pop. On the pure instrumental section, those jazzy flares come out strongly and keep the listener entertained from start to finish. Neva Eva is a fantastic song that is one of Hitomi’s best, if not her best, making it a definite one to listen for.
白昼夢 is a enticing Latin song. The song starts off with an instrumentation driven by Latin sounds that immediately catches the listener’s attention. Her vocals during the first verse are smooth and carry that a certain sexiness about them just works with the Latin heat of the music. The chorus stands out pretty easily although it doesn’t feature any particular instrumental or vocal change but there’s a certain magic behind it. On the pure instrumental section, there are a few different instruments that have the time to shine before Hitomi comes back in with some vocals. This is a great song and could’ve served as the single’s A-side because it’s so strong.
In order to promote the single, a PV for Neva Eva was made. The video features Hitomi as an office secretary doing some various things such as throwing a paper onto the copy machine, typing at her desk and a whole lot of dancing. It’s actually a pretty cool video despite being pretty simple.
Single Ranking: A +
Both songs on this single make it one fantastic one that entices the listener. Neva Eva is a fast-paced dance song that will immediately make the listener fall in love with Hitomi. The B-side slows things down a bit to bring the Latin flavor, suiting Hitomi’s vocals perfectly. It’s a great single from start to finish.

ayaka’s 4th single, entitled 三日月, was released on 09.27.06. Originally this song was picked to be ayaka’s debut single but for unknown reasons, it was pushed back. The title track was used as a CM song for a chain of Japanese record stores and as a promotional song for @Human.
三日月 is a powerful ballad that touches the listener’s heart. The emotional atomsphere is established right
from the opening instrumental and then ayaka comes in for the first verse. Her vocals here are wonderful, supporting the piano perfectly. On the chorus, the emotions seem to come even stronger as it almost feels like ayaka is tearing up while singing with such beauty, power and control. The third verse allows for a nice little change of pace as the music takes a new turn. This is a great ballad with wonderful vocals to enhance the song’s atmosphere.
君のキスで… is a fantastic uptempo number drawing on Spanish influences. The song starts off with a nice upbeat Spanish influenced instrumental that immediately catches the listener’s ear. Her vocals during the verse carry that certain smoothness that only ayaka can bring. The chorus allows ayaka to show off her powerful her voice can be and with the more aggressive instrumental, taking on some rocky sounds, it really stands out from the rest of the song.
In order to promote the single, two PVs for 三日月 was made. One was made before ayaka’s official debut, which features ayaka sitting in a boat and sitting and watching absolutely gorgeous scenery. The other PV made during the actual single promotion time features ayaka sitting on a lamp-post.
Single Ranking: A
As the final single before the release of First Message, 三日月 was a great single from start to finish. The A-side is a great ballad with the emotions in the forefront for the listener to enjoy. 君のキスで… takes on Spanish sounds and it’s different from other songs done by ayaka so it’s a nice new treat.
